Merciful God, in your Son Jesus Christ you raised up an unfailing light for all the nations to see. Grant that your people may know and confess the full splendor of their Redeemer and, by his grace, enter into light everlasting. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God forever and ever. Amen

    and the peoples plot in vain?

2 The kings of the earth set themselves,

    and the rulers take counsel together,
